Up Your Toasted Cheese Sandwich Game!

One of life’s most humble and simple pleasures is a classic toasted cheese sandwich (or grilled cheese as some call it). It hits all the benchmarks for ultimate comfort food - buttery, crunchy, gooey and cheesy goodness. Whether you are after an easy Sunday night dinner, nostalgia for a childhood fave or needing a late night snack after stumbling home after one too many drinks, melted cheese between bread is always going to be a good idea!

One of the best things about toasted cheese sandwiches is that you can branch out and make them as intricate as you desire or keep it classic with just straight cheese. We have put together a list of some of our favourite toasted cheese variations for you to try.

Hot tip - keep it easy and use a pre-sliced cheddar cheese such as Bega Cheese Slices ($2.99 for 250g).

PIZZA POCKET
- Cheddar cheese
- Tomato paste or pizza sauce (if you don’t have either just regular tomato sauce)
- Deli ham
- a sprinkling of any dried herbs such as oregano, rosemary or thyme (or all three! )
- Sundried tomato and/or olives

BBQ CHICKEN
- BBQ Sauce
- Leftover roast chicken (make it easy and use a Lilydale Whole Hot Roast Chicken $7)
- Cheese
- bonus flavour points if you sprinkle in some smoky paprika or peri-peri seasoning

CHEESE & ONION
- Spring onion or few slices of brown onion that have been fried in a little butter
- Cheddar Cheese
- Chopped fresh parsley
- Finish with a good pinch of rock salt on the outside

PICKLES & MUSTARD
- Seeded dijon mustard
- Cheddar Cheese
- Pickles
- Try using mayonnaise on outside instead of butter. Sounds whacky but we can assure you it works!

LEFTOVERS LOVER
- Leftover spaghetti bolognese. Either just the sauce or pasta and sauce
- Cheddar Cheese

*works best in a jaffle maker
